A FRONTIER ANGEL
A FRONTIER ANGEL
Passing through the Nevada City Farmer’s Market last weekend, I was captivated by a subtle but unmistakable fragrance. Flashbacks of wood nymphs dancing on mother’s beach at Purdon? Following the heavenly aroma, I found myself in the comforting oasis of Frontier Angel Soap.
Roxanne Page, with warm smile and genuine enthusiasm, greeted me. Originally established in 2002, Roxanne shared her journey since taking the helm of the iconic company in 2018. It is a love story of care and attention to detail in her work; from her concern for planet and love of high-quality natural ingredients and essential oils to the enchanting labels created by talented local artist, Jennifer Rain Crosby.
As we exchanged stories and laughter, Roxanne pointed out the intricate details on the labels. A crown adorning her “Queen” bee, a cat rubbing affectionately against a man's leg... “I told her I wanted a cat and—look—there she is rubbing against his leg!” More than labels; they are images of the affection and joy infused into Frontier Angel Soap. A collaboration between maker and artist to offer a product that is not only kind to the earth and our bodies but also enchanting to the senses.
Each colorfully marbled soap has a thoughtful name, a story, a vibe. They are the colors of nature—the ocean, rivers, forest, and fields. The scents are subtle and down-to-earth. They remind me of summers at the Yuba in the 90’s, past lives at a handmade cabin in Big Sur… Nostalgic.
The muscle rub is a new release; a classic made with thoughtfully curated, clean ingredients. “Try some!” We did. My partner was happy to oblige and very appreciative. A clean and potent alternative, made in our community, packaged in glass—these are the kinds of things we get excited about here at YUBAHUB!
If you are wondering about her beautiful cup, I invite you to meet Roxanne and ask her yourself! Look for Frontier Angel at tomorrow morning’s Nevada City Farmer’s Market (Saturday July 8th from 8:30am-1pm), Make Local Habit, Kiya’s Naturals, Briar Patch Co-op, Natural Selection, or shop online at the Frontier Angel Soap website.
